Response to press reports:

Ch77 Homeopathic chelation

It has been the policy of The Autism Recovery Centre to following autism treatment protocols recommended by The Autism Research Institute (ARI) in the US. This includes chelating agents such as DMSA, DMPS, ALA, TTFD, etc.

However, every now and then, we come across products that are outside of the ARI recommendations that we feel are safe, efficacious and fill some gaps that the ARI has not yet addressed. The homeopathic chelation agent Ch77 is one such product.

We were introduced to this homeopathic chelation agent by our Australian colleagues who were treating autistic and other children suffering from heavy metal toxicity.

We were initially cautious. This was in late 2004. At that time, we had a group of parents who were rather anxious to rid their kids of mercury that showed up in either hair or urine tests. Yet, these children had gastro-intestinal issues that needed to be addressed before any formal ARI-type chelation was possible.

The parents were told about Ch77 and were also informed that we have never used it before. Only our Australian colleagues could vouch for its safety and efficacy. At that time, thousands of bottles had already been used without any report of adverse reactions. These parents decided to give it a try.

To our surprise, a few of the kids responded very positively, with one of them coming close to recovery. Language and awareness improved.

Some of the kids would eventually be put on chelation with DMPS. As part of the normal safety check, we measured their kidney and liver functions. No autistic child was injured as a result of using this homeopathic chelating agent for six months or more.

To date, The Autism Recovery Centre has dispensed close to a thousand bottles of this homeopathic chelating agent without a single safety incident.

We had 2 brothers who had been put on standard TD DMPS. The parents reported mild stimming during chelation days and not much improvement overall. About six months later, we decided to add on Ch77 to the DMPS. This time, there was no stimming and they reported the first use of appropriate language to request for food.

These are the factors that have allowed us to justify the continued use of homeopathic chelation. Nonetheless, we still prefer the standard ARI recommended chelators and kids will be prescribed with these at the appropriate time.

We stand by the safety and efficacy

We welcome any parent who has come across any adverse reactions from the use of this product to come forward and give us some details.

Clinical decisions are often taken under some constraints. One of these is financial. Standard DMSA / DMPS chelation can cost 600 percent to 800 percent more than homeopathic chelation. In fact, many of our families have requested to continue using Ch77 over DMPS / DMSA even though their children are ready for standard chelation.

We strongly urge parents to check back with their doctors and physicians if they have any doubts about any particular supplement or medication. Seeking information from internet forums and serve lists may be counter-productive.

While we believe people who participate in such lists are well meaning, they often have no clue about the unique circumstances of individual cases. Further they do not have to take responsibility for their advice, unlike your physicians who has that responsibility.
